Baker & Taylor is closing its doors!
After nearly 200 years, the distribution giant Baker & Taylor is closing its doors. B&T was almost the exclusive distributor of books to libraries, but that exclusivity has been in doubt over the past several years as distributors such as Hoopla, Overdrive, and Palace (to name a few) have pushed into the space with the rise of digital book lending.
If any library has used B&T to order a book or two from M Presents, I thank you and I thank B&T for handling that distribution. Now, aside from digital distribution, getting into libraries will not be as easy. If you're interested in helping get M Presents titles at your local library, you might be able to help! First, ask if the library can carry one (or all) of our books. Like I said, libraries have options and if there is a demand they will be open to carrying the title. Also, and this comes with a financial burden to you, most libraries accept donations of books on their shelves (provided they have the space) but I recommend contacting whoever is responsible for acquisitions at your local library before making any sort of donation. Finally, and this will be harder to accomplish but it still might help, let me know who to reach out to and I'll do what I can to get in.
With all of that in mind, for anyone interested, I'll be offering a discounted rate for print books bought with the intention of donating them to libraries if the library is unable to acquire the book themself. Simply send me the address that the book(s) need to be shipped to (a name would be appreciated) to mpresents.publishing@gmail.com. I'll calculate the shipping cost and let you know how much it'll be (it should equate to roughly 30% off, depending on the book and shipping costs). Please note that this discount only applies if I ship directly to a library; personal shipments direct-to-consumers will still be discounted, but not as much, as the cost of distribution is no longer a factor.
