EDITING SERVICES

 Michael Bertolini, owner of M Presents Publishing, is offering a variety of editing services.

  • Developmental Editing

$0.10/word of the original piece (minimum 5,000 words; $0.12/word if the original piece exceeds 100,000 words)

This involves reading the entire piece and suggesting substantial overhauls, such as rewriting sentences, adding or removing paragraphs, identifying and suggesting changes to improve pacing, and conforming to genre norms.

  • Copy Editing

$0.03/word of the original piece (minimum 5,000 words, $0.04/word if the original piece exceeds 100,000 words)

This involves checking a piece for spelling errors, grammatical errors, sentence structure, readability, and consistency.   Consistency with conventional style guides will be made/noted as appropriate; a specific style guide will also be provided to the author.

  • Proofreading

$0.01/word of the original piece (minimum 5,000 words, $0.02/word if the original piece exceeds 100,000 words)

This involves checking the readability of piece and noting spelling and grammatical errors. A report concerning the findings will be provided to the author upon completion.

A 500-word sample, preferably the initial 500 words of the piece, must be provided to ensure that I am comfortable and feel that I can provide an honest edit of the piece.  It does neither of us good if I'm not the right fit.

You will also need to inform me what sort of edit you wish to complete (Developmental, Copy, or Proofreading) and the actual word count.

Once you submit the piece, I will respond in (typically) 24 hours; I will either tell you that it is something I am not interested in/not right for me, or I will send you a written contract for you to sign. Once you sign the contract and send me the completed manuscript, I will perform the requested edit. The time of completion can vary between a couple of days and a couple of weeks, depending on length.  If you need a piece rushed (if, for example, you have a deadline) the price can be as much as twice the normal price dependant on length of the piece and the editing method.

Blast from the past

 Common wisdom says that you should never Google yourself, and so I usually don't. However, I did just that to see WHAT would come up (good or bad)when someone Googles me.
