Lovecraft and August Derleth. That does not mean writers need to use any of the deities/alien creatures described (in fact, authors are unable to use anything created by August Derleth, Brian Lumley, etc without permission from their estates), but cosmic horror/the madness of knowledge is important. Write about the creatures that think of humans as ants fit to be destroyed, or the cults of humans that deify these alien creatures. All works should be original and previously unpublished.
